Exclusive Excerpts of Governor Bobby Jindal's Response

Below are exclusive excerpts from
Governor Bobby Jindal's
Response to the State of Union:

...

As I grew up, my mom and dad taught me the values
that attracted them to this country - and they instilled
in me an immigrant's wonder at the greatness of
America. As a child, I remember going to the grocery
store with my dad. Growing up in India, he had seen
extreme poverty. And as we walked through the aisles,
looking at the endless variety on the shelves, he would
tell me: "Bobby, Americans can do anything."
I still believe that to this day.

...

Republicans are ready to work with the new President to provide those solutions. Here in my state of Louisiana, we don't care what party you belong to if you have good ideas to make life better for our people. We need more of that attitude from both Democrats and Republicans in our nation's capital. All of us want our economy to recover and our nation to prosper. So where we agree, Republicans must be the President's strongest partners. And where we disagree, Republicans have a responsibility to be candid and offer better ideas for a path forward.
...

The strength of America is not found in our government. It is found in the compassionate hearts and enterprising spirit of our citizens.
...

To solve our current problems, Washington must lead. But the way to lead is not to raise taxes and put more money and power in hands of Washington politicians. The way to lead is by empowering you - the American people. Because we believe that Americans can do anything.
...

Democratic leaders say their legislation will grow the economy. What it will do is grow the government, increase our taxes down the line, and saddle future generations with debt. Who among us would ask our children for a loan, so we could spend money we do not have, on things we do not need? That is precisely what the Democrats in Congress just did. It's irresponsible. And it's no way to strengthen our economy, create jobs, or build a prosperous future for our children.

...
In recent years, these distinctions in philosophy became less clear - because our party got away from its principles. You elected Republicans to champion limited government, fiscal discipline, and personal responsibility. Instead, Republicans went along with earmarks and big government spending in Washington. Republicans lost your trust - and rightly so.
...

A few weeks ago, the President warned that our nation is facing a crisis that he said "we may not be able to reverse." Our troubles are real, to be sure. But don't let anyone tell you that we cannot recover - or that America's best days are behind her.

Why the White House wants to control the Census...

...and why we shouldn't let them get it!

Its a very simple reason why the white house wants to control the census...and it has nothing to with making sure there is "accountability" or "accuracy" because we all know thats not gonna happen...at least not for the next 4 yrs. Its clear that Obama still thinks he is running for something...and is still playing the politician card...and the good speech guy....but that can only get you so far! It has not impressed me yet and he won't impress me untill he says something true...and steps up and stands up for what this country was built on. And that is nothing he has spoken of so far. But I digress....

The white house wants to control the Census because ....guess who decides districts....and electoral colleges? If the white house has any kind of influence on this you can guarantee who ever runs against Obama in 2012 probably wouldn't have half a chance because of the results of the "accurate" census. That is the very simple reason that we can't let them get their greedy hands on it. This bailout is a joke and is only a payback to the people who got him elected. I mean seriously....how is money for ACORN gonna stimulate the economy? haha! But they sure did stimulate his "eligible" voter pool.

Your thoughts? I know you have some. Don't hold back....thats the problem...we have been silent too long!

Another post worthy email....

Dear CU Members

As you know, the Senate is about to pass what is probably the most fiscally irresponsible spending bill in US history. This bill is being pitched as a "stimulus" package necessary to jump start our economy when in fact the bill is little more than a pent-up wish list of leftist spending priorities that have nothing to do with our economy anyway. The Obama administration is now engaging in shameless fear tactics to cajole Americans into letting this bill be rammed down our throats, promising doom and gloom if the bill is not passed immediately. In reality, the bill will only perpetuate and exacerbate our current economic situation.

From Grassfire.org—

"This Spending Bill will cost you and me well over $1 trillion -- and
liberals in Congress are using this "stimulus" to funnel billions of
dollars into social programs and pork projects that have nothing to
do with our economy.

In fact, according to Newsmax.com, many economists are "beginning to sound
alarms that the U.S. economy is perilously close to a 'tipping point,'
where so many voters will be on the public payroll it will be politically
impossible to rein in entitlement programs.""

We don't have much time left, but it's not too late. In the link below is the contact information of all 100 US Senators. Your task is simple: Call your Senator, go on the record opposing this bill and tell them you want them to do the same.

Economic "Stimulus" Package

I got this email and thought it was worthy to be posted here:

Dear stacy,

Yesterday, the Senate began debate on an economic stimulus package that is intended to get our economy back on track and help Americans who are suffering through these difficult times. Unfortunately, the proposal on the table is big on the giveaways for the special interests and corporate high rollers, yet short on help for ordinary working Americans. I cannot and do not support the package on the table from the Democrats and the Obama Administration. Our country does not need just another spending bill, particularly not one that will load future generations with the burden of massive debt. We need a short term stimulus bill that will directly help people, create jobs, and provide a jolt to our economy.

I believe we need to evaluate every bit of spending in this stimulus proposal with one important criteria - does it really stimulate the economy and help create jobs - if the answer is no, it does not belong in a so-called stimulus package. Furthermore, the stimulus must include significant direct relief to American workers in the form of payroll tax cuts and programs to help homeowners keep their homes. Finally, we need an end game to this stimulus so that when our economy recovers, these spending programs do not remain permanent and saddle our children with a skyrocketing national debt.

I appreciate the discussions President Obama is having with my Republican colleagues, but the time for talking has come to an end and we must now begin some serious negotiation. But as of yet, Republicans have not been given the opportunity to be involved. The House of Representatives passed a stimulus bill without a single Republican supporting it. In the Senate, the Democrat leadership is trying to jam the existing proposal through regardless of reservations from a number of members. With so much at stake, the last thing we need is partisanship driving our attempts to turn the economy around.

I have long been a fighter against wasteful spending in Washington and long an advocate for a balanced budget -- that will never change. I realize we face extraordinary challenges with our economy today, but that is not an excuse for more irresponsibly from Washington. I hope you will join me in saying no to this stimulus package as it currently exists by signing this petition.

Sincerely,

John McCain
Chair, Country First PAC

Get YOUR Obama stimulus check!!!

(an ad on Facebook! ha!)

Don't miss out your chance to get your $12k! hahahaah....yea right! More like watch your money go down the tubes! I mean....can anyone explain how these things "stimulate" the economy???

- $4.19 billion in slush funds for ACORN, the left-wing advocacy group best known for allegations of voter fraud during the 2008 presidential campaign
- $600 million to buy brand new cars for government bureaucrats
- $335 million for adult sex workshops (one of the few line items which could conceivably deliver "stimulus" )
- $150 million for honeybee insurance
- $2.8 billion for the US Department of Agriculture in a misdirected program more likely be spent to build unnecessary broadband internet services in urban areas than in the rural areas that lack service.

These are just a few examples of the shameless feeding frenzy taking place in halls of Congress today with this so-called “Stimulus Package.”

This trillion-dollar debt and spending scheme will provide little or no stimulus, but will put each and every American household in at least $6,700 of new debt, to be paid by our children and grandchildren.

Spending Stimulus Can't Work

1. Every dollar the government spends comes from the private sector.

Nobel Prize winner Milton Friedman famously said: "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch." Government spending is either financed through higher taxes, higher federal borrowing, or by printing money. Those are the only possibilities. They all create greater economic damage than any stimulus effect of new spending.

Tax increases lower the incentive to work, save, and invest. There is a strong association between tax increases and reduced economic growth. In an economic crisis, tax hikes should be unthinkable. The Revenue Act of 1932 was one of the major reasons an economic crisis deepened into the Great Depression.

Government borrowing also takes money out of the private economy—the money that bond purchasers hand over to the government in exchange for the bonds. That money could otherwise be used for business investment that would expand the economy’s productive capacity. If the funds are borrowed from abroad, our exports are lowered because U.S. dollars are being used to buy bonds instead of goods. Borrowed funds also have to be paid back, placing a burden on future taxpayers. Excessive borrowing also may increase interest rates, deepening the credit crisis.

Inflation may be most damaging financing mechanism of all. If government spends money that it hasn’t taxed or borrowed, then it is literally creating money out of thin air. More dollars being created means that the dollars in our pockets and bank accounts are worth less than they were before. Inflation is a stealth tax that erodes the value of everything and destroys real economic growth.

2. History shows spending stimulus fails.

America experimented with large-scale expansions of government spending in the 1930s with the New Deal and again in the 1960s and 70s with the Great Society. These dramatic expansions of government spending coincided with economic failure. The long-boom that started under Reagan and continued until now with only a couple of brief, mild recessions coincided with a significant decline in federal spending as a percentage of the economy.

3. Infrastructure projects should be judged on their merits, but not as stimulus.

There is a role for government in providing certain public goods that the market cannot efficiently provide. If financing is available at favorable rates it may make sense to take a long-term view and begin projects that are legitimately justified on their merits. We should be under no misconception, however, that public works spending is stimulative, because borrowed dollars are taken out of the private sector.
