Found this information online while searching about a job in politics....with no experience! HA! I have one of the items on the "useful experience" list. No idea how a person would go about getting a job in politics without an experience...but was just browsing. Anyone who knows me knows I have an interest in politics and that I brainstorm!:)... sooo here is a bit of what I found. I'm open for comments with info... I don't really have any connections as far as government is concerned (but I'm a HUGE fan of Bobby!) ... so if you have a connection... I'd love to have it too!
Training on the job
Skills are gained through working in a political environment.
Useful Experience
Useful experience for political scientists includes:- research work
- work for government departments, political parties, parliament, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) or local authorities
- community work
- writing or journalism experience
- statistical work
- work in public policy development
- work in international relations.
and THAT, Stacy, is why I'll be in BR politics within the next 3 years. My advice to you is to go take an intro college-level Stats course (basics through Analysis of Variance). You'll have an edge on your competitors.
